The men of lacrosse team, the Pioneers, dominated the second half of their first game of the season after a slow start; they managed a convincing victory of 10-5 over the Nittany Lions of Penn State in State College. The Pioneers, now in place No.12 in the country according to the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Mens D1 Media survey, were guided by Joey Murray, who contributed with four points in the win. The Pioneers fought with tipping during the first half, but were finally able to break the advantage of Penn State’s back to two goals when Goltra scored late in the second quarter to send to the Pioneers to halftime down 5-3. Jeb Hollingsworth, the greatest goalkeeper to the Pioneers had a great game because it managed to save seven attempts and tied for that team to lead returning five ground balls. Four players from the Pioneers finished the game with multiple score.

Both Murray and Goltra scored four points, whereas Koll and Ilija Gajic had two each. Only being recognized for the achievements of the past season, the Pioneers have reaped some achievements of pre-season. The Pioneers were also elected by a survey of coaches to again be the GWLL champions. With 27 players returning from the squad from the previous year, the Pioneers are looking to improve the success in 2006 with a rotation full of the best teams in the country. The Pioneers will play against previous winners such as the University of North Carolina, Stoney Brook University, the University of Notre Dame, Ohio State University and Duke University.
