Any coach and GM coming into the 2010 NFL draft looking for a difference maker on the defensive line will have to take a long look at Jerry Hughes.  He has been the true leader of one of the best and most underrated defenses in college football the last two years and truly is their force up front.

Hughes is one of the can't miss players on draft boards and although he might not end up being the next Julius Peppers or Jared Allen, he easily should be part of that second-tier of very good DEs that teams must game plan around and have consistently good seasons.  Worst case scenario for Hughes will likely be guy you can count on for 8-10 sacks a year, best case puts him among the NFL elite in the same way he has been one of college football's elite the last 2 seasons.

He is a guy that coaches love to coach and QBs will love to hate.  Some scouts will recommend a move to the 3-4 as an OLB.  Personally, with his body type he might be better off staying as a 4-3 DE as he is more cut for the front line in the 4-3, however he does have the athleticism to be effective in the 3-4 and may give some teams that play the hybrid 3-4/4-3 some good options.  Hughes is likely to be a mid to late first round pick depending on scheme and team needs; however, don't be surprised if some team really falls in love with him after watching tape and the combine.  He might just hear his name earlier then expected in round 1.
