Baltimore Ravens Draft Review

Michael Oher

1st Round, Pick 23- Michael Oher, Offensive Tackle, Ole Miss
No one on draft day seemed more excited to be in the NFL than Oher, who cried on the stage when the Ravens selected him about 10-15 spots after he was projected to go. While their are some concerns about his intelligence andconsistency, his life story, current family background, and emotion should make him one of Baltimore's feel good stories, and everyone will be rooting for this kid to become a Pro Bowler, which he definitely has the potential to be.

Evander Hood

1st Round, Pick 32- Evander Hood, Defensive Tackle, Missouri
Antonio Smith and Brett Keisel are above average as far as 5 technique tackles (3-4 defensive ends) go in this league, so that makes me question the pick. Smith and Keisel aren't extremely young or very talented, which could be a key contributor to the Hood pick, but with needs at tackle or even cornerback and many great guys at those positions available, the Hood pick will be questioned. Hood looks like he will be an above average starter in this league and a good value, but they could have gotten more for their pick.

Mark Sanchez

1st Round, Pick 5- Mark Sanchez, Quarterback, USC
I view the Mark Sanchez trade as both a great value and also over priced. While I get that the Jets need a "savior" and Sanchez has Big City Stud written all over him, I think he has been highly over-hyped because of his great personality and the redundant ESPN coverage of his every move. Sanchez has some tools to be a great starter in the league, but is very raw as a passer. He can't step in right away, regardless of what people say, and will need to work on touch on short passes, touch on long passes, throwing on the run, and other technical problems with his game. He needs at least 10 games before he can help, and I will question this pick as I don't know if he's the savior anytime soon. Still, only giving up their 1st, 2nd, and a few guys they didn't need anyways is a great value to move up 12 spots to get a franchise quarterback.

Buffalo Bills Draft Review

Aaron Maybin

1st Round, Pick 11- Aaron Maybin, Defensive End, Penn State
The Bills finished near the bottom in sacks this past season, and Chris Kelsey didn't live up to expectations. Maybin can contribute right away on pass rushing downs, but has a long way, bulk and technique-wise, before he's an every down defensive end. He has the talent, but it could be a few years before he becomes a full-time starter. Brian Orakpo was just as good of a pass rusher, a more fundamentally sound, and could have played much sooner.

Darius Butler

2nd Round, Pick 34- Patrick Chung, Safety, Oregon
Meriweather and Sanders are both solid starters right now, but Meriweather may be best fit at free safety, and Chung can fit the role as a hard-hitting strong safety. At worst for now, he’s a great rotational guy and a dynamic special teamer.
Grade: C+
